Kitsune Dojo is a sports club founded in 2024 in Bratislava with the primary goal of offering regular karate training, self-defense courses, raising awareness, and guiding both youth and adults toward martial arts. The head instructor and president of the association is Chiara Mária Tereková (2nd dan Goju-Ryu Karate). We are an inclusive sports club dedicated to working with athletes who have physical or mental disabilities, striving to fully integrate them into our community.
Kitsune Dojo is a member club of the Slovak Union of Okinawa Karate and Kobudo (SUOKK). The president and highest instructor of this organization is Sensei Igor Vakoš (5th Dan Goju-Ryu Karate, 4th Dan Okinawa Kobudo, 3rd Dan Gendai Kobudo). We deeply appreciate the support and guidance of Sensei Vakoš, as well as the contributions of other instructors and members of SUOKK. Our syllabus is designed according to the standards of the international organization TOGKF (Traditional Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate Do Federation). The headquarters of this organization is located in Naha, Okinawa, and its founder is Morio Higaonna Shuseki Shihan, who holds the highest rank (10th Dan). In 2013, Sensei Higaonna was recognized by the Okinawan government as a "Living Cultural Treasure of Okinawa," the highest honor attainable in Japanese martial arts.
TOGKF is a global organization dedicated to teaching and promoting traditional Goju-Ryu Karate-Do. It was founded in 1979 by Sensei Morio Higaonna during the first international training camp (gasshuku) as the International Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-Do Federation, and in 2022 it was renamed the Traditional Okinawa Goju-Ryu Karate-Do Federation. The mission of TOGKF is to preserve the teachings and philosophy of Sensei Chojun Miyagi and to spread these values worldwide. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Sensei Higaonna and his students, the organization now has members across the globe.
For us, karate is not merely a sport - it is a path to comprehensive personal growth, discipline, and respect. We view it as a lifestyle that shapes character and strengthens inner power. We believe that martial arts should be accessible to anyone eager to push their limits and develop, regardless of physical constraints. Discipline, respect, humility, and mutual support among our members are the cornerstones of our club. Karate teaches us self-control, a lesson we carry from the dojo into our everyday lives. Martial arts inspire us to face challenges with courage, to accept setbacks with humility, and to continually strive for improvement - both physically and mentally. At Kitsune Dojo, we warmly welcome everyone ready to embark on this journey with us.
Dojo Kun
Dojo Kun is the code of conduct for martial artists within the TOGKF organization. It encapsulates the principles and values shared by every member of our community, and we strive to live each day in accordance with these guidelines.
Each principle is as important as the others, so before stating each one, it is customary to say "Hitotsu" (meaning "rule number one"):

FAQ
I have a disability. Are karate training or self-defence classes suitable for me?
We believe that everyone should be able to defend themselves. That's why our training sessions and courses are designed to be accessible to people of all ages and those with disabilities. We also train para-karate practitioners because we know that individuals with disabilities are capable of achieving outstanding athletic performances. Furthermore, if you find any activity too challenging or uncomfortable, you are free to opt out.
What is “para-karate”?
Para-karate (inclusive karate) is a specific form of karate in which the rules have been adapted to allow fair competition for athletes with disabilities. This form of karate emphasizes the ancient discipline of 'kata' (pre-arranged forms), which has been adjusted for wheelchair users, deaf or blind athletes, and athletes with intellectual disabilities.
Given the increasing popularity of this sport, our goal is to have para-karate recognized as a Paralympic discipline, enabling athletes with disabilities to compete on the world’s most prestigious stage.
Why should I attend a self-defence course?
Violence is a complex issue that affects every one of us, and we all have the right to protect ourselves and our loved ones. That's why basic self-defense knowledge should be accessible to anyone interested. Our association offers a holistic approach to self-defense - not solely focused on physical techniques, but also emphasizing violence prevention, situational awareness, verbal self-defense, and conflict de-escalation strategies. In our courses, we not only teach physical self-defense techniques but also engage in activities that foster assertiveness and self-confidence.
Can I book a self-defence course for my team as a as a teambuilding activity?
Absolutely! We'd be delighted to organize a course for you. All funds raised through this initiative will be reinvested in club development and the organization of non-profit events. You'll enjoy a fun teambuilding experience while making a meaningful contribution to a great cause.
